| These pictures are from a trip around Phuket Island. Phuket is both a province and a town. We visited three beaches in Phuket Island on a day that a storm was moving in. It was very dramatic. The island has so many beautiful beaches. These three were not central tourist places. That's what I liked about them. They're toward the north side of the island. Most of the main tourist spots are in the south. We lived in the middle of the island in Kathu. We were 5 miles from the center of Phuket city on one side and 4 miles from Patong on the other side. The island is about 35 miles from south to north. It probably takes 2 hours to drive that distance. Traffic is horrendous and dangerous. Wherever you drive a car there will be a swarm of motorbikes filling in the gaps all around you. In the time I was there I came upon about 4 different severe life threatening accidents that had just happened and there was a body in the road that was very still. It was numbing. Car drivers seemed very cautious and didn't swerve a lot when motorbikes were around. Otherwise the cars would cut other cars off without a second thought. |
