| The big buddha is about 100 feet tall and sits at the top of a big hill or mountain with a view to the sea. Its design is traditional rather than realistic. So the finger dimensions are not accurate for the sculpture size. The ears are droopy. It has that classic dreadlock kind of hair. Underneath the sculpture is a temple, gift shop and snack area. It is still under construction. It's a labor of love. On the site at the top of the hill there is a relatively large parking lot, a smaller metallic buddha sculpture and a sculpture of a buddha with a bunch of snakes around it. There are monkeys roaming the grounds. I once took the back way up to the big buddha and got my motorbike very muddy. It was definitely single track riding up that far. I passed a tourist destination where you can ride elephants and 4 wheelers. Much of that road would be impassable by car. It was very difficult by motorbike, but fun. I would definitely not do that route during a rain. Most of my trips up there were on the major tourist road. The views from up there are nice. I would not go there just for the views. There are much better views from Panwa. The view is nice though. There are lots of options to travel up the hill to the big buddha. You could take a cab or a motorbike cab or rent a motorbike or get a tour. I am confident on two wheels so I'm fairly comfortable tooling around Phuket on a motorbike. I have ridden bicycles for over 50 years on the road. I've ridden motorcycles for over 20 years. My experience gives me that kind of confidence HOVER ON THE IMAGE FOR AN EXPANDED VIEW |
