View of Angkor Wat

I'm learning Photoshop and the Adobe Creative Suite. I'm sharing this picture from Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The image enhancement wasn't entirely successful but very adequate. I used the quick selection tool to make the sky more interesting without impacting the darkness of the rest of the photo.

The image itself shows a main temple that was once in the jungle. The 400 acre temple complex was discovered in 1860 but was built in the 1200s. It's also reminds me of the Disney movie Jungle Book. It has the same banyan tree roots covering ancient stone ruins. Many of the ruins are being crushed by trees. This particular shot was from a corner of a complex that looks pretty intact.

Ban Maireab School in Kathu, Phuket, Thailand

This is the first school I taught in when I arrived in Thailand. It was the beginning of an adventure. I just focused on the day to day. Transportation, food, getting clothes ready, making lesson plans. It was a hand to mouth existence. From the photography perspective this photo was downloaded from a 3D view photo from Facebook on my Mac mini. When I downloaded it basically gave a screenshot of the area of the 3D image rather than a copy of the file. So I had to merge 5 different photos into this composite by using the transparent layer as a container.

Dunes in Merzouga, Morocco

I saw pictures of the red dunes of Merzouga online and put this on my bucket list of places. We planned to visit Casablanca, Fes and Marrakech. The dunes were a side trip of a day, almost an afterthought but I really wanted to get some good desert photos and see the Sahara. We drove 9 hours each way to see the dunes at sunset and at sunrise. It was worth every minute. This is a World Heritage site for me. It's a natural wonder, an artistic endeavor, a miracle. The dunes were about 12 stories tall. We stayed in a wool tent with Bedouins for the night. They had a dining tent set up for us. We had a huge pile of wool blankets on top of us. We stayed in an oasis with palm trees. We rode camels.

This is not my idea but one I've seen quite a bit but I had to have my own version since we were there. I had to do a lot of clean up of the image because the dunes were covered with tire tracks. That is a shame in this area that is so far from civilization.
